MDM: a home page with 100 PageSpeed points

For MDM we rebuilt the home page from scratch

PageSpeed matters for SEO, user experience and conversion. So the goal was clearly defined, to reach 100 points in Google PageSpeed with a modern technical approach.

Before

A WordPress home page that no longer met current performance requirements. With regard to SEO in particular, an optimisation was overdue.

After

Next.js in front, WordPress in the background. The new home page scores 100 points in Google PageSpeed.

What brought the loading time down

Next.js is a React framework and allows a lean architecture with server-side rendering. That removed unnecessary dependencies, cut loading times drastically, and we kept full control over content and structure.

  • Lazy loading for images and sliders.
  • REST API The content comes directly from WordPress.
  • Lean code The source code is fully streamlined, unnecessary plugins are gone.

The result is less blocking while loading and a clean Largest Contentful Paint.

SEO benefits directly too

Because the home page is rendered on the server, Google can read and index the content optimally. Meta data, structured data and canonicals come straight from WordPress via the Yoast integration.

WordPress stays for the content, Next.js takes care of the speed.
